PART I
Trying different text to speech voices from different website
It is difficult to find a good voice, neutral enough to fit my project.
A lot of computer Korean voices sound too cute when they are female and too viril when they are male. The tone is really important.
Also another problem that I have to face is the sound quality that it delivers.
After recording the voices, I processed them with Ableton. In order to give an androgen feel, I duplicated the sound and I added transposed the frequencies of one to a lower pitch. And I added a reverb on top of that to make it more like a celestial voice.
Here are a selection of the best voices I could find.
These come from the website Readspeaker
This one was more complicated to get. They come from a Naver API. What you can hear are just samples without using my text. But I already tried and succeed to use this API. You can see the details below.
For this one I added a background track (GIL - Love Is a Towel Over Shifting Sands) to give an idea of the final result. I won't use this track for the final project but I want to use an atmospheric background music like this one maybe.
As you can imagine, I'll use the Clova Premium voice. I can get a Wave file out of it and I can change settings without signal loss. I can change the pitch, the speed and the emotion (standard, depressed, bright).
Unfortunately this service is not free but still very cheap if I'm organized and I don't do too much tries.
Here is the quotation:
To get the API working, I had to create a local server with Node.js
Here is the code:
And then I just have to call that script through Node.js in the Windows terminal.
PART II
Giving back the deconstruction from where it comes from.
Apartments represent modern Korea so well that I had to use them in my project. They are the key element to modern Korean architecture.
I had to find a strategy. First I had to find a good location, then find a day and finally find a place to rent a drone.
I wanted to get many different kind of apartment towers, new and old. In order to find a good location, I first used the app Drone Fly to see which area I am allowed to fly over. In these area I knew that Cheongna and Ori were both residential areas. Cheongna is quite new and Ori is already few decades old.
After deciding these areas I used Naver Map street view "airplane mode" to get a preview of apartment towers from the sky. I was then able to select the best looking towers. The best to fly around is a tower that is isolated enough from others so I can easily orbit around it and see clearly all of the faces of the tower.
I pinpointed the best towers and I rented a DJI Mavic Pro at superrental.co.kr in Hapjeong. I didn't need a big drone for that. Just a cheap and easy drone with a decent photo quality.
After one full day of shooting I returned home and I processed the pictures with Metashape from Agisoft. I'll explain the process in detail next week.
You can see here the 3D location of each picture I took around one building.
The idea was to focus on only one tower but Metashape gave me a much greater area. The best quality is on the tower I focused on so I don't think I will use the rest of the data for my project.
I will isolated the main tower of each scans.
But as you can see below the renderings of the full areas look too good to be abandoned. I'll use these illustrations as a sub project of this main project.
